Khatanga Degel for buhurt: torso armor
Khatanga Degel follows an Eastern “soft brigandine” concept associated with Mongol-Tatar warriors. A multilayer base (felt/leather/textile combinations) works with an internal plate set to absorb impact and spread load across the torso.
This model emphasizes oversized plates, increasing overlap and helping close gaps over the chest, ribs, sides, and upper hips. Mixed thickness by zones allows reinforcement where it matters most, while keeping overall mass controlled in secondary areas for better pace and stamina.
Fit is based on functional geometry: stable on the body, avoids digging into the hips during squats and lunges, and keeps the shoulder line usable for grappling, turns, and shield work. The caftan-style form supports mobility without sacrificing coverage.
For buhurt, serviceability matters. Riveted construction enables routine inspection and localized repairs—fasteners and single plates can be addressed without rebuilding the whole piece. Design and manufacturing are oriented to historical sources and analog prototypes of Eastern armor, while the build is adapted for modern safety requirements.
Event acceptance depends on the specific rule set and on-site inspection. Before a tournament, check your league/format requirements and complete the protective system (padding, neck/shoulder/groin solutions, etc.).
