Nikolskoye helmet with half mask and aventail for buhurt
Nikolskoye helmet is a closed helmet guided by historical sources and 13th-century Rus’ analogs (find associated with the Nikolskoye area). It is built for full-contact armored combat: the face line is covered by a half mask, while the neck zone is supported by hidden coverage working together with a chainmail aventail.
The dome uses pronounced stiffening ribs to improve resistance to deformation and help the shell keep its shape under repeated strikes and clinch pressure. The overall geometry aims for stable seating during grabs and pushes, reducing forward “nose-dive” movement.
Included: chainmail aventail, padded liner with hidden additional plates, and straps. Fit relies on a considered dome shape and standard sizing; final setup is achieved by choosing liner thickness and tuning the strap system to your kit.
For events, the build is made with common safety inspection criteria in mind (coverage of risky zones, stability, finished edges). Final approval depends on the specific ruleset and on-site checks (buhurt/IMCF/HMB, SCA heavy, and other formats).
Maintenance notes: monitor straps, liner stitching, and the maille; replace consumables when needed to keep the helmet centered and consistent under impact.
