Black Burial Russian Helmet for Buhurt — Blackened
Black Burial is a Russian helmet of the 10th–12th centuries, made with reference to archaeological finds and historical analog prototypes. The blackened finish is decorative: it does not claim historical coloration, but it is practical for day-to-day use and maintenance.
The build is tuned for buhurt/full contact: repeated impacts, clinch pressure, and crowded exchanges. The helmet uses concealed face and neck protection to add coverage in high-risk zones while keeping workable vision angles and reducing snag risk on opposing gear.
Included in the set:
- mail aventail for neck and lower-head coverage;
- padded liner with hidden reinforcement plates to spread load;
- straps for stable positioning and reduced shift under pulls and hits.
Fit relies on a considered dome geometry and correct sizing, with room for your padding system. Strap and liner tuning helps keep the helmet centered and limits forward “dive” under impact, which matters for neck fatigue over multiple rounds.
Serviceability: the suspension/strap elements are straightforward to replace as they wear, and the aventail can be maintained like standard mail (cleaning, ring repair, partial replacement).
The design is made with common tournament inspection criteria in mind across historical full-contact formats (e.g., HMB, ACL and similar), but final approval depends on the specific event rules and the on-site check.
