Nikolskoye “Gold” Helmet for Full-Contact Buhurt
Nikolskoye “Gold” helmet is built with reference to historical sources and 13th-century analog prototypes; the original find is associated with the Nikolskoye area in Russia. The construction is aimed at buhurt and other full-contact formats where stability under contact and consistent coverage matter more than display details.
The key feature is covered face and neck protection. A closed face line reduces exposure to direct strikes around the nose/cheek area, while the neck coverage helps during clinch work and pressure exchanges. The dome is formed with reinforcing ribs, improving resistance to denting under repetitive impacts and helping the shell keep geometry over long use.
Fit is designed around common head anatomy and correct sizing, leaving room for a padded liner. With proper suspension tuning, the helmet stays centered and helps limit “nose-dive” movement that can steal vision after pulls or hard hits. The kit is ready for regular training: chainmail aventail, internal soft padding with hidden extra plates, and straps are included. Straps and riveted elements are serviceable, supporting practical repairs and replacements during a season.
The gold-look coating follows the historical image (the original is known to have been gilded). Regarding tournament checks: edge finishing and coverage are typically made with common inspection criteria in mind, but final approval depends on a specific event ruleset and on-site inspection.
