Ribbed nasal bascinet for full-contact buhurt
Ribbed nasal bascinet is an open-faced helmet for buhurt training and full-contact events, built around documented 14th-century German and Northern Italian analogs (c. 1340–1370). With no moving visor parts, the construction stays serviceable under regular impact loads and is easier to inspect after fights.
The dome is formed with stiffening ribs to increase shell rigidity and help spread impact energy. The face is covered by a nasal plate, fixed at the forehead on hooks/hinge points and secured at the bottom to the aventail for stability under contact. The eye area is supported by hidden internal protection and eye bridges, aimed at reducing direct contact with the openings and limiting weapon snagging.
- Protection: ribbed dome, nasal plate, concealed reinforcements around face and eyes.
- Mobility & vision: open format keeps usable field of view and ventilation for long rounds.
- Fit: geometry is designed with head anatomy in mind; the strap system stabilizes the helmet against rotation and lift.
- Use & upkeep: liner and straps are straightforward to service; the mail aventail protects neck and shoulder line in clinch work.
Set includes a mail aventail, padded liner with concealed extra plates, and straps. Several build configurations are available for thickness and heat treatment (exact parameters depend on the selected option).
For tournaments: the design is aimed at typical safety checks used in HMB, IMCF, ACL and similar rulesets, while the final call is always made by the event’s armor inspectors. For longevity, use a proper under-helmet padding setup and routinely check straps, rivets, and edges.
