Hundsgugel Bascinet Helmet for Buhurt Full Contact
Hundsgugel is a European bascinet helmet of the 14th–15th centuries with an elongated conical visor. The shape is based on period sources and close historical analogs rather than fantasy styling.
For full-contact fighting, the key is face protection, controlled breathing, usable head mobility, and a build you can service between events. The conical “houndskull” visor increases surface area and promotes glancing: edges and thrust tips tend to slide along the cone instead of biting straight in under pressure.
- Protection: closed visor shields the face; the cone spreads load over a larger area. Multiple steel/thickness and heat-treat options are available to align with different rule sets.
- Ventilation: the extended visor gives space for breathing holes without concentrating them in a single weak strip.
- Mobility: bascinet geometry keeps a practical head-turn range; overall balance depends on the chosen configuration.
- Fit: sizing is selected by head circumference; internal volume is intended to work with a padded liner. Account for padding thickness when choosing the size.
- Serviceability: fasteners and visor hardware are meant for routine checks; straps, rivets, and consumables can be replaced as they wear.
Suitable for training and events across different full-contact formats (e.g., HMB, ACL, IMCF) when your configuration meets the current safety requirements. Final approval always depends on the event’s inspection.
Care: dry the helmet after sparring, remove sweat/condensation, refresh anti-corrosion protection, and periodically re-check all fasteners and straps.
