Eastern helmet "Kovalevka" for buhurt
Eastern combat helmet “Kovalevka” follows late 13th – early 14th century Golden Horde analogs. We use historical sources and surviving prototypes as a reference for the dome shape and silhouette, while the build is tuned for full-contact historical combat day-to-day use.
The helmet is designed to take repeated head shots: the load is carried by the dome and internal suspension rather than soft tissue. The set includes a chainmail aventail, a padded liner with hidden additional plates and fixing straps — this closes the helmet/neck junction and helps keep a stable fit with reduced unwanted movement.
- Protection: the aventail covers the neck and lower face area against typical angles; the plated liner adds resilience in strike exchanges.
- Mobility: compact eastern geometry supports active body work and clinch entries; correct sizing helps the helmet stay aligned.
- Fit: based on well-tested geometry and sizing, taking head anatomy into account. Standard strap adjustment and liner tuning are possible without “made-to-measure for each person” claims.
- Serviceability: straps, lacing and soft parts are consumables that can be replaced in the field with basic tools.
On event checks: the construction is made with common safety requirements in mind for full contact (finished edges, secure retention, correct aventail work). Final compliance depends on the ruleset of a specific tournament and the inspection commission, especially regarding steel/thickness options and allowed gaps selected at checkout.
