Khorosan ribbed helmet with mail aventail
Eastern ribbed helmet “Khorosan” is a practical build for full-contact armored combat (melee/duel). The silhouette is based on historical sources and 14th-century Eastern analogs often shown on steppe and Mongol warriors, without claims of absolute one-to-one reconstruction.
Protection: stiffening ribs reinforce the dome and help spread impact over a wider area. A mail aventail is fixed along the lower edge to cover throat, neck and the top of the shoulders; added cheek plates take glancing side hits and keep clearance from the face.
Mobility & awareness: the open face line avoids a heavy visor, supports breathing and communication, and keeps peripheral awareness in close work. The aventail acts as flexible protection, allowing head rotation while maintaining coverage.
Fit: stability comes from correct sizing and proper suspension/liner setup. The dome geometry and seating line are designed around common head proportions to keep the center of mass close to the neck axis.
Service & maintenance: the construction is convenient to keep running—mail sections and fasteners can be repaired or replaced, and routine care is simple: rinse, dry, and protect the steel after events.
Tournament checks: coverage and edge solutions are made with typical inspection requirements of full-contact formats in mind (e.g., HMB, IMCF, ACL). Always verify your league’s rulebook and use an appropriate padded liner; final approval is up to the marshals.
