Visby Type III brigandine is plated torso armor guided by historical analogs from the Visby battlefield finds (14th century) and Thordeman’s classification. Large internal plates cover the core, with additional plates over the back and clavicle area. The base is built on a dense textile foundation; each rivet is backed by a leather washer to reduce wear in hard use. Sizing is selected from measurements taken over your padding to keep mobility and correct clearances for full-contact work.

Product description

Visby Type III brigandine is a plated torso armor built with reference to historical sources and analogs from the Visby battlefield finds (14th century), following Thordeman’s typology. The design uses large internal plates to spread impact across the torso and reduce localized stress under full-contact hits.

Protection: the torso is covered by large plates, with added reinforcement on the back and the clavicle area. This supports common impact vectors in clinch and close-range exchanges. The base is a dense textile foundation; a leather washer under each rivet helps limit abrasion and supports the service life of the fastening points during repeated shock and vibration.

Mobility: brigandine construction keeps the body working through separated plates on a flexible base, which is practical for footwork, rotations, entries and hand fighting. The armor is intended to be worn over padding; measurements are taken over your under-armor kit to keep a functional fit without excessive looseness or breathing restriction.

Service & repair: riveted assembly is maintenance-friendly—fasteners, washers and individual plates can be replaced locally as they wear, without rebuilding the entire piece. This is useful for a regular training cycle.

Tournament checks: coverage zones and geometry follow common full-contact expectations for torso closure in buhurt and related formats. Before competing, verify thickness/rigidity and padding requirements against the ruleset of your specific event—standards vary between organizers and leagues.
