Kusnacht Brigandine for full contact armored combat
Kusnacht Brigandine is torso armor for full contact medieval combat, developed with reference to historical sources and a Swiss prototype associated with Küsnacht Castle. The format uses large internal plates designed to take repeated impact and distribute force across the body, reducing point loads on the ribs and sternum.
This model works as a practical base for beginners and as a reliable training/tournament torso for experienced fighters when the rest of the kit is assembled correctly. The geometry keeps breathing volume and allows functional torso rotation without turning the waistline into a rigid “barrel”.
- Protection: large-plate layout helps manage heavy body shots and close-range contact.
- Mobility: built for active footwork, clinch, turns, and leaning without excessive restriction.
- Fit: straps and buckles let you tune the volume over a gambeson and supporting layers.
- Serviceability: hardware and suspension elements can be replaced locally, without full rebuild.
Use and maintenance: always wear proper padding. Set the straps so the armor stays stable under movement and does not shift onto the ribs. Dry after training and regularly check fasteners (rivets/straps/buckles) to prevent play and premature wear.
Event inspection note: the design approach aligns with common safety logic used across buhurt and related armored combat formats; with appropriate build parameters and correct fit it typically meets inspection requirements. Final approval depends on the rules and marshals of a specific event.
