Sahnovka bracers for buhurt and sparring
Sahnovka bracers are a pair of rigid shells for forearm protection in full-contact medieval combat. The shape is based on historical references and close analogs from the Old Rus / Eastern tradition.
The construction is a hinged clamshell: two halves connected by hinges and closed with buckle straps. This keeps the bracers quick to put on and practical to service between events.
- Protection: a solid plate spreads impact; the raised upper area helps cover the transition toward the elbow.
- Mobility: designed to work alongside an elbow cop and gloves without bulky parts that catch in clinch.
- Stability: outer straps control volume, and inner straps secure the bracer to the hand to reduce twisting under strikes.
- Fit: strap adjustment gives room over an arming garment; geometry follows typical forearm anatomy rather than a flat tube.
- Serviceability: straps and buckles are consumables and can be replaced; keep an eye on rivets and hinge play.
For tournaments and sparring: the bracers are made with common safety requirements in mind (no sharp edges or protrusions), but final approval depends on the rules of a specific event and the marshal check (HMB, IMCF, ACL, etc.).
Use and care: dry after training, apply anti-corrosion protection, dry straps separately; if hinges develop play, tighten or replace hardware.
