Visby Type 1 Brigandine for Armored Combat Torso
Visby brigandine Type 1 is a plate-based torso armor made as a stylization guided by historical sources and archaeological analogs associated with the Battle of Visby. The pattern follows Thordeman’s Type 1 classification. For armored combat and full-contact training, this plate brigandine provides practical torso coverage while keeping the shoulder line mobile for clinch work and weapon handling.
The build includes additional plates in areas that commonly take impact in buhurt: the back and clavicle zone. This improves load distribution on the upper torso and helps reduce “hard hits” reaching the body during close-range exchanges. The brigandine is assembled on a dense textile foundation (thick wool reinforced with bonded durable canvas), supporting plate geometry and keeping the armor stable under movement.
Each rivet is backed by a leather washer, which helps limit abrasion on the foundation and supports long-term use. From a practical standpoint, it improves serviceability: straps can be replaced, and single rivet points can be reworked without dismantling the whole armor.
Fit: the geometry is designed with torso anatomy in mind (shoulder line, chest shape, rib volume) and intended to be worn over padded protection. For tournament rule sets (IMCF, HMB, ACL, and others), this type of brigandine commonly passes equipment checks when sized correctly and paired with appropriate soft layers; final approval always depends on the event marshals and their inspection.
