Wooden buckler with boss for full-contact fighting
Wooden buckler with a steel boss is a compact round shield designed for one-hand control in full-contact historical fighting. The boss protects the knuckles and helps take impacts on the center while redirecting strikes.
- Core: 8 mm plywood for a working balance of durability and weight.
- Boss: 2 mm steel to shield the hand and reinforce the center.
- Rim: covered with 4 mm leather to reduce edge chipping and splitting over time.
Shape and layout are based on historical buckler prototypes and source-driven analogs from medieval fencing traditions, while the build is tuned for modern impact loads from training and tournaments.
Mobility: small footprint keeps the arm responsive for tempo work, angle changes, and quick recovery into guard.
Serviceability: rim leather and hardware are typical wear items that can be replaced; local repairs help extend the shield’s working life.
About event checks: materials and construction align with common requirements for wooden bucklers with a boss, but acceptance depends on the specific ruleset and the item’s condition at inspection.
