One-handed sword 90 cm, 1.48 kg — full contact safe
One-handed buhurt / full contact sword based on historical prototypes of European one-handed swords with a conical pommel (sources and period analogs are used as a reference for shape and proportions). The geometry is made for modern contact fighting: the edge is unsharpened and the tip is rounded.
- Length: 90 cm
- Weight: 1.48 kg
- Blade thickness: 4 mm
- Edge: unsharpened
- Tip: rounded to reduce puncture risk
This format pairs naturally with a shield: manageable length for close-to-mid range, stable line control in clinch situations, and consistent handling for combinations. The mass stays within a practical range for long rounds without turning the wrist into a limiter.
Use & maintenance: after training/fights, check straightness, tip rounding condition, and any burrs along the edge; remove burrs with careful filing/sanding and restore smooth transitions. Protect from corrosion with oil/wax and dry storage. As with any tournament weapon, compliance is assessed by the organizer’s inspection; requirements vary across rule sets (HMB/IMCF/ACL and others).
Note: this is sporting equipment intended for modern medieval combat; it is not sharpened and is not supplied as a cutting weapon.
