Quilted padded mittens for buhurt under gauntlets
Quilted soft mittens are a practical under-layer for the hand and wrist when fighting in buhurt and other full-contact formats. No matter what outer hand protection you use—plate, chainmail, scale or mixed builds—padding is what prevents pressure points, rubbing, and “hot spots” inside the gauntlet.
The premium version is made from dense natural fabric with two layers of batting. This provides impact diffusion while keeping bulk under control, so the mitten doesn’t steal grip space. On the inside of the hand there is a leather palm insert for durability on weapon and shield handles and to reduce slipping when gloves get damp.
Shape and quilting are based on historical padded under-glove/mitten analogs referenced from period sources and surviving examples, with geometry tuned for modern full-contact needs: wrist articulation and consistent gauntlet seating matter as much as padding thickness.
Fit and compatibility: mittens are produced in the required size using the measurements you provide. For tournament inspections, the key is that the full system (outer gauntlet + padding) preserves control and doesn’t create unsafe gaps; acceptance depends on the ruleset and the inspectors’ decision at a given event.
Use and maintenance: dry at room temperature after fights, avoid overheating near heaters. Typical service work is palm reinforcement and spot re-stitching, which can be repaired locally without rebuilding the whole mitten.
