Brigandine gorget for neck protection in full-contact medieval combat. Commonly used with helmets without a mail aventail: it covers the sides and the base of the neck, while the front throat area is left without plates to keep head movement freer in clinch and grappling. If needed, the front can be reinforced with plates as an option. Soft padding is included to reduce pressure points and help the gorget sit consistently under the helmet.

Product description

Brigandine gorget is a neck protection piece for buhurt/full-contact medieval fighting, built around practical coverage, mobility, and serviceability.

The build follows historical analogs: a plate set under the outer layer, shaped with reference to period sources and prototypes. The geometry is aimed at protecting common impact zones while keeping the “helmet–neck” interface functional.

  • Mobility-first front: the throat front is made without plates to reduce chin/helmet interference and keep head rotation and downward vision more natural.
  • Optional reinforcement: front plates can be added if your ruleset or kit calls for more rigid frontal protection.
  • Fit & compatibility: typically paired with helmets that have no mail aventail; check overlap and clearance so edges do not catch during strikes or grappling.
  • Padding included: soft liner spreads impact load, reduces rubbing, and stabilizes the fit during active movement.

Maintenance: dry the padding after use; wipe and protect metal surfaces. Field repairs are usually straightforward (hardware replacement, local straightening, and outer layer service) without complex rebuilds.

Tournament checks: coverage and edge treatment should be matched to your event’s requirements (HMB and other formats). Always verify compliance with the specific organizer’s rules before competing.
