14–15th c. hourglass plate gauntlets with a brigandine gaiter for wrist coverage without bulky cuffs. Articulated fingers keep a practical grip for weapon and shield work; the shell geometry follows typical hand anatomy to reduce pressure points. Straps stabilize the cuff and help prevent a blow from slipping under the edge. Steel/heat-treatment options are available; roundels can be added for extra finger protection. Geometry and coverage are commonly compatible with full-contact equipment checks, but final approval depends on the event and your complete kit.

Product description

Hourglass gauntlets with a brigandine gaiter follow European 14–15th century analogues, with the build guided by historical sources and surviving prototypes. The design targets buhurt/full contact use: impact zones are covered while keeping hand function for weapon handling and shield control.

  • Protection: a shaped back-of-hand shell and extended wrist area reduce direct hits on joints. The brigandine gaiter adds layered coverage over the cuff line and forearm edge.
  • Mobility: articulated finger plates and hinged connections allow closing the hand without forcing the grip against rigid metal.
  • Fit & retention: the gauntlet geometry follows typical hand anatomy (thumb position, knuckle height) and aims to limit pinch points. Cuff straps help keep the gauntlet from rotating under load.
  • Upgrades: optional roundels can be installed to reinforce finger protection.
  • Service: straps and suspension parts are replaceable; riveted joints are maintainable with routine inspection for play and periodic lubrication of moving points.

By coverage and geometry, the gauntlets are commonly suitable for equipment checks used across multiple full-contact rule sets. Final acceptance is always decided by the event officials and depends on the complete armor kit and how it is worn.
